First let me point out that Jonathan Warner, in his interview at E3 did not commit to PVP in Anthem. Anthem is a Shared-World RPG and may or may not have PVP in it. But for the sake of discussion let's say there will be PVP. What if, instead of running around in a tiny “PVP MAP” until your eyes bug out, you would have the Wilds of Anthem. In that same interview Jonathan Warner said that enemies would also come in Exosuits. What if you could be a Marauder, out in the Wilds of Anthem exploring, fighting monsters and ambushing Freelancers when you encountered them. The “Bad Guys”, out to make a Freelancer's life a bit more difficult. There could even be a storyline.
Let me add to my speculation. The two auto cannons on the outside platform looked as if they're meant to defend against something that is flying, considering the perch their on. The Scars ambush had a heavy or a Colossus, I notice that a body was thrown out of it when destroyed, a human looking...
In the beginning of Mass Effect you selected a backstory for Shephard. This was incorporated into the storyline. Is there a backstory to the Freelancers? Will we be able to pick a backstory for our character? Will that place us in the storyline in some way?
Freelancer is an ancient term for mercenaries or hired army. Praxley's dialogue referred to paying others who weren't freelancers, a cheaper price for a mission. This implies that the freelancers are for hire, having either military or combat experience to be called a freelancer. Also in the demo the group of four assembled to form a squad, another military term.
In the gameplay demo we get a good look at the Ranger and Colossus. We see the “v” shaped or chevron on the Rangers Exosuit, this could also represent the Roman Numeral 5 (as in legion) We see another symbol on the left shoulder and leg of the Colossus. Both symbols that the Freelancers sport may be a faction insignia. But maybe they...
- Lore Theory:
Humanity left earth due to a lack of resources, wars, failed governments and ruined environments.
We created a bastion on the closet habitable planet. And founded Fort Tarsus.
Once we were established, we discovered other species that inhabited the same planet. After the same things we came for. Refuge, resources and a new life. As supplies are scarce. It's a race to secure out fragile new home.
We ask for the bravest of this new society to help scout and defend were labelled as 'Freelancers'.
Over time on this planet, an ancient power source was discovered and now It's a race against time to claim this power source to ensure our survival.
This is our struggle. This is our 'Anthem'
What I want to focus on is a couple of points of interest and how the society of Fort Tarsus may function. Based on the little information given to us via the gameplay demo. Some of these points may in fact bear direct relationship to our involvement in Anthem, our gameplay.
Coat of Arms: It appears that Fort Tarsus has a flag or a coat of arms. A white “V” shape on a field of blue. According to custom and tradition, white signifies purity and innocence; and blue signifies vigilance, perseverance, and justice. The shape has a feathered look as if this is a stylized bird rather than a V.
If Fort Tarsus has a flag then there could be other flags out there or factions.
Fort Tarsus security or police: In the beginning of the demo we see a women talking to an individual in a Exosuit. She is wearing what appears to be a uniform and the Exosuit has the Ft. Tarsus coat of arms on the arm. We see a number of similar Exosuit security...
